League of Women Voters: Written Questions and Answers
Q1. What do you envision as a workable solution for our water issues?
I envision a diversified, long-term water strategy rather than relying on one expensive solution. We should pursue groundwater and brackish groundwater, water reuse, conservation, reducing water loss, and desalination where it is financially and environmentally responsible. I also support exploring public-private partnerships that bring private investment and reduce taxpayer risk. Every option should be evaluated by reliable water yield, total cost, timeline, environmental impact, permitting risk, and impact on residents’ water bills. Corpus Christi should be an innovator in water while protecting our residents, our bay, and our economic future. I am ultimately pro-best solution for Corpus Christi.
Q2. Do you favor an independent redistricting commission to redraw city council districts and why or why not?
I am not currently for or against an independent redistricting commission. Corpus Christi’s City Council districts have already been redrawn through the most recent redistricting process. My priority is ensuring that any future redistricting is conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the law, with meaningful public input. When the next redistricting process occurs, I would review the available options and determine which process best provides residents with fair representation while maintaining transparency and accountability.
Q3. Which city issues are most important to you?
The three issues most important to me are Affordable and Reliable Water, Responsible Spending, and Safer Neighborhoods with Stronger Infrastructure. We need a diversified, long-term water strategy that protects residents from unaffordable rates. We must prioritize needs over wants, reduce unnecessary spending, address debt, and ensure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly. Finally, we need to invest in our neighborhoods by improving residential streets, drainage, sidewalks, street lighting, and public safety. My focus is on making responsible decisions today that strengthen our community and leave future generations with greater opportunity—not greater debt.
