Shane Barker

Host of Morning Edition and the Mid-day News at Noon

Shane Barker is a Sturgis, Michigan native, hailing from the same, small Curtain-rod Capitol of the World as former All Things Considered commentator Tom Bodett (“We’ll keep the light on for ya!”).  He comes to KEDT after spending three years in the Middle Eastern Island Kingdom of Bahrain, on his second tour with the U.S. Navy.  He received his journalism and broadcast training from the Defense Information School, then located at Fort Harrison, in Indianapolis, IN.  From there he served in USS ASHLAND (LSD 48) as the ship’s journalist.  There,  the bulk of his work was in print journalism and video production.  Shane traveled extensively with the Navy, circumnavigating the South American continent, and visiting various countries along the west coast of Africa, the Mediterranean, and of course, the Arabian Gulf.  He’s a voracious reader, a political junkie, a never-ending student of Anglican Church History, and a regular killer of house-plants.  He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Classics from the University of King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
