Local host of Musica Suave.

Chris Ortiz, a native New Yorker, born and raised in The Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, brings forth music of his heritage and upbringing; Salsa, Merengue, Latin-Jazz with an occasional bolero. These rhythms are courtesy of Cuba, Puerto Rico, New York City, Panama, Santo Domingo, Columbia, Venezuela just to name a few.

Prior to coming to KEDT, Chris hosted Salsa Con Sabor on Magic 105 for a year.  Before that, he was a self-appointed moderator for the Salsa scene in Monterey, California.  He also organized and coordinated Salsa dances as well as special events, always staying active as a DJ in local nightclubs.

“I started out as a volunteer working with Blaize Gallagher and Katy Kershaw at KEDT in July, 1994”, says Chris.  This experience at the station led him to creating the Latin Dance Party Show and airing it on Saturday nights.  “The show was such a tremendous hit in the community that that motivated me to continue hosting the show for almost eleven years”, Chris noted.

Chris, with his long-time experience in Special Events organizing, still continues to DJ for special occasions as well as coordinate Special Events.

Chris shares the music of his heritage and up bringing with South Texas every Saturday night from 10pm-11pm on your community-owned station, KEDT-FM/KVRT-FM.
