FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What can I donate?
STPBS accepts cars, motorcycles and recreational vehicles. Most vehicles are accepted, except those that are heavily damaged or incomplete. STPBS “Vehicles for KEDT” Donation Program accepts donations in its viewing and listening area.

How do I donate my vehicle?
Call 1-877-308-2408 to make your donation and arrange for your vehicle to be picked up.

Have ready:

  • the title to your vehicle (it must be in your name)

  • location of your vehicle

  • general condition of your vehicle

This information assists the tow company in scheduling appropriate towing arrangements.  An appointment will be scheduled for a tow truck to pick up your vehicle. You will need to give the tow driver the vehicle's keys; the title (which must be in your name); and your signature authorizing the tow.  You will be instructed on how to sign the title.

My vehicle doesn't run. Can I still donate it?
The location and the condition of your vehicle determine whether it can be accepted for resale.

Will you pick up my vehicle?
STPBS will schedule a tow truck to pick up your vehicle. The towing company will need:

  • the car keys

  • the title to your car (it must be in your name)

  • your signature authorizing the tow

A receipt will be given to you by the driver, that will verify that your vehicle was received on behalf of STPBS.  You will be instructed on how to sign the title.

Is my vehicle donation tax deductible?
Yes. As of January 1, 2005, the law allows a deduction equal to the gross proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle, because STPBS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

How do I estimate the value of my car, for my tax deduction?
As of January 1, 2005, the law allows a deduction equal to the gross proceeds from the sale of your donated vehicle. Vehicles for Charity, which administers STPBS’s donation program, will notify you of the amount when your vehicle is sold. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

How do I claim my tax deduction?
You should include the sale proceeds of your vehicle, as provided to you by Vehicles for Charity, as an itemized deduction on your tax return for the year in which you make the donation. The instructions for IRS Form 8283, "Noncash Charitable Contributions" explains what to do if your non-cash donations, including the vehicle, are worth more than $500 in a given year. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Why don't you accept boats anymore?
We're sorry that we can no longer accept boat donations. The state of Texas requires the boat, trailer and motor to be titled separately. The time and cost involved in transferring the titles (and storing the boats during the title transfer process) is eliminating any proceeds the station would receive from the sales.
