KEDT LAUNCHES THE 2011

PBS KIDS GO!® WRITERS CONTEST

(Continues the tradition of the Reading Rainbow Contest)

Are you in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, or third grade? Sharpen your pencils and get out those markers!! Send in your illustrated story!

We invite all students to submit a story to KEDT! Your story can be about anything but it must be your own ideas…you cannot “borrow” a story or rewrite a story you have read. You also need to create at least 5 pictures to show what is happening in the story. It’s okay to get your parents or your teacher to help you with the rules and entry sheet.

We’ve also include a story form and writing guide if you want to use them and a handy checklist to make sure you have included everything!

Deadline for entries: 5 PM Friday, March 11, 2011

The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is a writing competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning.  The effort encourages children in grades K-3 in the Coastal Bend Area and communities across the country, to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original stories and illustrations.

The PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest extends the powerful tradition and annual success of the 15 year national “Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest,” originally created by WNED-TV Buffalo/Toronto and NET Nebraska.  The new Contest is produced by WNED-TV, Buffalo/Toronto and PBS.
