About the Reading Rainbow Contest 2008 Q: Will all children who enter be recognized? A: Yes. Every child who enters will receive a certificate of achievement signed by LeVar Burton, host of Reading Rainbow.
Q: Must the spelling and grammar be correct? A: No. Students’ originality in plot, ideas and expression is most important. Phonetic or creative spelling will be accepted. Q: May the students write about stories from their lives? A: Yes. In general, we write best about the things we know best. Students’ life experiences are a rich source of stories. Q: Do the story and illustrations have to fit exactly within the word and picture limits? A: While there is a word limitation, there is not a limit on the maximum number of pictures that accompany the story. Q: Will entries be returned? A: Individual entries will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included with the entry. (Entries submitted by classroom teachers will be returned to the teacher.) Note: First place winners will be forwarded to the National Contest and will not be returned. We suggest that you make a copy of your entry. Q: What is the contest entry DEADLINE? A: All entries must be hand delivered or postmarked no later than Saturday, March 8, 2008, 5:00 PM. Send your completed story and illustrations, including your entry form to: KEDT-TV
