Guided by two engineer hosts, the teams are scored for their ability to

DISCOUNTED DREAMS: High Hopes and Harsh Realities at America’s
Community Colleges. Community
colleges educate nurses, law enforcement officers and computer technicians. They
are the gateway to the American dream for millions of citizens, new and old.
Important as they are, they are also seriously flawed. One problem is chronic
under-funding. And the “open door” admissions policy is too often a
revolving door, with barely 30 percent of students ever earning a degree or
certificate or successfully transferring to a four-year institution. Resolving
these problems is essential, not only for those directly involved but also for
the American future
May 24 Thursday, 8:00PM THE 2007 NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SPELLING BEE returns for
the 19th year with host Alex Trebek.
Students representing 50 states compete at school and state levels with
ten finalists, grades four though eight, moving on to the final championship.
The ten finalists will compete for $50,000 in scholarship prizes,
answering questions spanning meteorology, international affairs, culture and
history.

as they made the journey to Washington, DC, for their final reunion at the
