August 1 @ 8pm – Great Performances: Dudamel Conducts the Verdi Requiem at the Hollywood Bowl
In commemoration of the Giuseppe Verdi bicentennial in 2013, Music Director Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic perform a thrilling concert of Verdi’s toweringRequiem Mass at the Hollywood Bowl. The concert presentation features soloists Julianna Di Giacomo (soprano), Michelle DeYoung (mezzo-soprano), Vittorio Grigolo (tenor) and Ildebrando D’Arcangelo (bass).

August 5 @ 7pm – Cafeteria Man
All across America, school food is undergoing a major transformation to help reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. Cafeteria Man provides a unique, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring fresher, healthier food to the millions of kids in our nation’s schools, with the ultimate goal of enhancing their well-being. The documentary follows nationally-recognized, charismatic chef Tony Geraci for several years as he works to revamp school food programs in Baltimore and Memphis, despite the challenges. Says best-sellng author and food activist Michael Pollan in the film: “If Tony makes this happen here, I think you’ll see this happening all over the country.”

August 8 @ 8pm – Dick Cavett’s Watergate
From 1972 to 1974, the Watergate scandal was frequently a part of “The Dick Cavett Show.” In fact, Cavett was at the forefront of national TV coverage, interviewing nearly every major Watergate figure as the crisis unfolded. With exclusive access to the archive of the show, DICK CAVETT’S WATERGATE documents the scandal in the words of the people who lived it: from the botched burglary at the Democratic National Headquarters; to the must-see TV of the daily Congressional Watergate hearings; to the ongoing behind-the-scenes battle between the White House and “The Dick Cavett Show,” culminating with the resignation of President Nixon on August 9, 1974. DICK CAVETT’S WATERGATE offers a unique opportunity to mark the 40th anniversary of a defining moment in American history.

August 9 @ 8:30pm – My Music: 50’s & 60’s Rock Rewind
From “Love Me Tender” to “Only You,” “Wake Up Little Suzie” to “Dream Lover” and ” Long Tall Sally” to “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” this new MY MUSIC special spotlights the happy days of the 50s and early 60s with archival footage of the greatest pop and rock hit makers of the era in their prime. Jon “Bowzer” Bauman, from the original Sha Na Na lineup, hosts.

August 10 @ 8pm – Return to Downton Abbey
Savor a mix of fond memories from the past four seasons of “Downton Abbey” and get a taste of the upcoming fifth season. Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon hosts the program, which includes behind-the-scenes footage, fondly remembered moments from the first four seasons, and interviews with Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, providing an overview and context for the series and what to expect next. Recall the high points of the “Downton Abbey” storyline, its memorable cast of characters, and both the great joy and wrenching sadness taking place at the abbey.

The theater is a small town Texas landmark built in 1928. The Five members of Atteberry Station come together in Wellington to perform their original music in front of a hometown crowd, displaying musical influences ranging from Garth Brooks to Lynyrd Skynyrd, with a little Buddy Holly sprinkled in.

August 17 @ 7pm – My Music: Bert Bacharach’s Best
Celebrate legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach, with host Robert Wagner introducing archival performances by the original artists who made the music famous, including Dionne Warwick (“Walk On By,” “I Say a Little Prayer”), B.J. Thomas (“Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head”), The Carpenters (“Close to You”), The Fifth Dimension (“One Less Bell to Answer”), Dusty Springfield (“The Look of Love”), Herb Alpert (“This Guy’s in Love With You”) and many more.

August 18 @ 7pm – Jimmy Van Heusen: Swingin’ with Frank & Bing
Celebrate Oscar-winning composer and test pilot Jimmy Van Heusen, who wrote high-flying songs for his legendary pals: “Swinging on a Star” and “Moonlight Becomes You” for Bing Crosby and “Come Fly With Me” for Frank Sinatra, plus ”Call Me Irresponsible,” “The Tender Trap,” ”All the Way,” “High Hopes,” “Here’s That Rainy Day” and many more. The program includes interviews with Frank Sinatra, Jr., Harry Crosby, Tony Bennett, Woody Allen, Angie Dickinson, Shirley MacLaine, John Pizzarelli and others, along with archival film and television clips of his timeless songs.

August 19 @ 9pm – Great Performances: Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers
Comedy legend Steve Martin is now in the fifth decade of a varied and accomplished career as a comic, actor, author and playwright. He is also a Grammy-winning, boundary-pushing bluegrass banjoist and songwriter. GREAT PERFORMANCES turns the spotlight on Martin’s musical side with a concert performance of his new collaboration with Edie Brickell, who initially burst onto the national scene in the late 80s fronting the New Bohemians. Although these new musical partners have already built respected individual bodies of work, their inaugural effort is a charming departure, as well as a creative milestone. Backed by the virtuoso playing of the Steep Canyon Rangers, the duo partner on a series of new songs that combine Martin’s inventive five-string banjo playing with Brickell’s heart-tugging vocals to create a playful and accessible collection of songs.

August 24 @ 8pm – Masterpiece Mystery! Breathless (series)
Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean, “Smash”) stars as a brilliant London surgeon in 1961, when doctors were treated like gods and acted the part. Also starring in this stylish story of a dark secret amid the complexities of the sexual revolution are Zoe Boyle (“Downton Abbey”), Catherine Steadman (“Mansfield Park”), Iain Glen (“Downton Abbey”), Natasha Little (“Case Histories”), Oliver Chris (“Sharpe’s Challenge”), Joanna Page (Love Actually) and Shaun Dingwall (“Touching Evil”).

August 28 @ 8pm – Great Performances: Rejoice with Itzhak Perlman
Legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman and celebrated cantor Yitzchak Meir Helfgot join forces for a musical exploration of liturgical and traditional works in new arrangements for both chamber orchestra and klezmer settings. The music of “Rejoice” showcases the confluences between the violinist’s famed classical technique and Helfgot’s magnificent voice.
